Joy of Learning Preschool follows the Utah State Office of Education's Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines to ensure that each child is ready to start kindergarten. We use a variety of quality teaching resources to plan learning activities to reach curriculum objectives. Here are just some of the learning objectives we will explore: Language and Literacy Receptive and Expressive Language (Listening and Speaking) Concepts of print Phonological and Phonemic Awareness Emergent Writing Alphabet knowledge (letter names and sounds) Mathematics Counting skills Use numbers to create, match and compare 1-5 objects (number sense) Sorting Patterns Shapes Measurement Collecting Data Approaches to Learning Display a sense of curiosity and willingness to try new things Persists in completing tasks Works collaboratively with others Social/Emotional Develops self-awareness and positive self-esteem Develops social skills that promote positive interactions with others Physical Health and Safety Music, Art, Drama Curriculum is organized around several different projects that are interesting and engaging to the children. Some projects might include seasons, transportation, ice cream, pizza, insects, stores, or animals. Skills are taught with a variety of methods including learning centers, free exploration time, and small and whole group instruction. |
